Yesterday Susan returned from a week looking after her father while her mother was in hospital. She also spent a lot of time working with the health system to ensure that her mother had sufficient support after she came home.
It was a hard time for us both. I missed her and didn't understand why she had to look after her father. She found the time with her mother in hospital hard. Such unexpected events do put a strain on us, particularly me as I am not very flexible. I get cross when major unexpected changes happen in my day-to-day life.
I expect holidays to be a series of new events, and for plans to falter. However on day-to-day life, I like a finely controlled balance of duty and pleasure. When that balance falls, my anger rises. Susan in contrast adapts to unexpected events, and lets the days flow easily.
